Members-only preview screening of Hannah Arendt
Wednesday, June 26 at 6:00 pm
Catch this brilliant new biopic of influential German-Jewish philosopher and political theorist Hannah Arendt before the film’s June 28th opening at Philadelphia theaters.
Arendt’s reporting on the 1961 trial of ex-Nazi Adolf Eichmann in The New Yorker—controversial both for her portrayal of Eichmannand the Jewish councils—introduced her now-famous concept of the “Banality of Evil.” Using footage from the actual Eichmann trial and weaving a narrative that spans three countries, von Trotta beautifully turns the often invisible passion for thought into immersive, dramatic cinema.
RSVP to Julie Howard Taylor at jtaylor@nmajh.org or (215) 923-3811 x 104.

Complimentary Members-Only Screening of Koch, the documentary
April 2013
A full house of Members joined us for a private screening of Koch before the documentary opened to the public at area movie theatres!
Controversial figure and former Mayor Ed Koch was the quintessential New Yorker. Ferocious, charismatic, and hilariously blunt, Koch, who died in February at the age of 88, ruled New York from 1978 to 1989 - a down-and-dirty decade of grit, graffiti, near-bankruptcy and rampant crime. First-time filmmaker (and former Wall Street Journal reporter) Neil Barsky has crafted an intimate and revealing portrait of this intensely private man, his legacy as a political titan, and the town he helped transform.

Otsuka's work is a compelling account of Japanese "picture brides" and
their experience in the United States.
Shirley Brown, Co-Director
of the Philadelphia Writing Project facilitated the discussion. Brown's
professional teaching life has largely focused on gender issues like those
discussed in Otsuka's book, and those elucidated in parts of NMAJH's core
exhibition
