The event I remember most is my mother's funeral. The memorial service afterwards was at the synagogue that I had been going to since I was two years old. She died very quickly and unexpectedly. In the synagogue there is a group of five lights. All my life when I prayed in this synagogue I prayed to these five lights -- a representation of God, I guess. Every time I prayed we'd have a moment of silence and I would look at these lights. On the day of my mother's memorial service the lights were broken and wouldn't turn on. That is when I felt the absence of God and my mother and I never went back to that synagogue. | ||
