| THE MUSEUM
EXHIBITION (now closed)
The original illustrations featured
in this exhibition at the National Museum of American Jewish History represented
a remarkable flowering of picture books on Jewish themes, chosen as a sampling
of the best illustrated Jewish literature for children produced in the 1990s.
Like all good children's book art, the pictures impart an added dimension
to the stories they illustrate, while also making imaginative statements
of their own.
In partnership with area schools,
the Museum invited fifth- and sixth-grade students to write gallery labels
responding to the illustrations. Their words afforded a fresh and often touching
perspective on the artwork.
