ABOUT THE BOOK
| From the book,
The Angel's Mistake, Stories of Chelm, by Francine
Prose, paintings by Mark Podwal. There has never been another town like Chelm.
The people who lived there thought they knew everything. But did they? There
are many hilarious stories about this city where only fools lived. And this
is the story about how it all began. (Text copyright 1997 by Francine Prose;
Illustrations copyright 1997 by Mark Podwal.) |

The Angel
of Love, carried his pouch of love beads tightly, as he directed himself
towards the sad, lonely, hungry children. He was so sure he knew where
they were hiding!!!
The
two angels are flying high above the rooftops. Angels fly so high in the
sky-even higher than birds. The picture makes me wonder what the angels will
do next. I'd love to fly with them and do good deeds for people.

Double
trouble. These two angels, enjoying a leisure flight, have a mission to distribute
the intelligent and fools' souls evenly throughout the land-when all the
foolish souls are dropped by mistake over the city of Chelm. Like humans,
these angels' carelessness affected others. Using colored pencils and gouache,
the illustrator really made this picture come to life.
