Temple Beth Zion: Buffalo, NY
In 1889 Edward A. Kent was commissioned to design this unique Byzantine synagogue, complete with a copper dome and Medina brownstone masonry. This second synagogue building for congregation Beth Zion was dedicated September 12, 1890. Classroom buildings were added in 1912. Unfortunately, this beautiful synagogue was completely destroyed by a fire October 4, 1961. The present Temple was designed by architect Max Abramovitz with windows, Ten Commandment tablets and Menorah by artist, Ben Shahn. The Temple also houses the Cofeld Judaic Museum.
