The Landfield Avenue Synagogue
in Monticello was originally built in 1912 to house Orthodox congregation
Tiferef Israel. The separate entrances seen in the postcard (women's entrance
above) were changed to a single entrance in 1965, and the stairways removed.
This building is still used as the congregation's sanctuary. A new wing has
been added to the left side of the property that includes a kitchen, social
hall and area for a Sukkah. The congregation is in the process of compiling
its history. If you have any information to contribute, please contact Tiferef
Israel directly, c/o Rabbi Chanowitz, 18 Landfield Avenue, PO Box 1410, Monticello,
NY 12707.
