Tifereth Israel laid the cornerstone
for this ornate building on July 16, 1893. Dedicated on September 21, 1894,
the synagogue was described as the most grand in Cleveland, particularly for
its canopied ceiling. This building on Willson Avenue (now East 55th Street)
was sold to Friendship Baptist Church in 1924, a transition not uncommon
among early Cleveland synagogues.
