Reform Congregation Kneseth Israel
was built in 1864, one of the first synagogues to adopt a Moorish-Middle
Eastern style of architecture. The congregation moved from its downtown location
at Broad and Columbia streets to the nearby northeastern neighborhood Elkins
Park in 1957.
