Rock Docs: The Last Waltz with WXPN

Wednesday, November 30, 2016

6 pm   Special Highs in the 70s hangout at the Museum with WXPN's Dan Reed
7 pm   Film screening (USA, 1978, 117 min.)

Join us for a cinematic celebration of the rock and roll revolution of the '60s and '70s, with its flower power, youth, and psychedelic music, through these classic concert docs. Curated by longtime film critic for The Philadelphia Inquirer, Carrie Rickey.

From Academy Award-winning director Martin Scorsese comes a compelling account of the 1976 Thanksgiving farewell concert of The Band. Forty years later, this legendary music documentary will take us back to the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco where Robbie Robertson and his fellow band members played together for the last time, accompanied on stage by their friends, including Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Muddy Waters, and Neil Young. “Waltz is one of the rare rock films that produces the effect of a live concert. I’ve seen it more than a dozen times, and after each number I always applaud, imagining I’m there in the Winterland’s front row.” (Carrie Rickey) Rated: PG.
