Rube Goldberg logo

The Art of Rube Goldberg is the first comprehensive retrospective exhibition of Rube Goldberg's work since the Smithsonian's 1970 celebration of the artist. It explores his varied career from his earliest published works and iconic Rube Goldberg machine invention drawings, to his Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoons, and more.

Throughout his long career, Rube Goldberg (1883-1970) chronicled almost every salient aspect of modern American life. His work touched on everything from fashion and sports to gender, politics, and international affairs. This exhibition explores the artistry and wit that made Rube Goldberg one of the twentieth century's most celebrated and enduring cartoonists - and a household name.

Join us on Sunday 10/28 at 1pm for a one-of-a-kind tour of The Art of Rube Goldberg led by Rube’s own granddaughter, Jennifer George! Tour is included in the cost of admission, just sign up at the front desk when you arrive.

Please note, the exhibition will be closed on Sunday from 11am-12pm for the 1654 Society Summit. 1654 Society members are deeply committed to the preservation and interpretation of American Jewish history and support the Museum through a four-year pledge of $1,800 or more per year.

Our Summer 2018 interns turned the entire Museum into a Rube Goldberg Machine.
